'The Tories have damaged Britain - the only solution is a change of hands with Labor in power'

Keir Mudie says Liz Truss signed off on that mini budget, of course, so he's not sure what the chancellor's firing actually achieved apart from removing the last human shield protect the woman herself

Surreal week in Parliament. No other word for it.

They brought a robot - Ai-Da - to Parliament to be grilled by a Lords Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence.

With jerky, almost realistic movements, blank eyes, flashes of rudimentary understanding, the Lords managed to ask him a few decent questions. (Cheap, I know, but I can't resist.)

Eventually it fell asleep, having to be turned off and on to get it back on. Maybe we should have it measured for dresses. Fit perfectly.

On Friday lunchtime, things got stranger as Kwasi Kwarteng became one of the most short-lived chancellors in history.

Hard to sympathize with him - of course - not the most disastrous terms in office there have been. But it's not good when someone is a scapegoat like that.
