A conservative candidate for city council has been expelled from the party for allegedly posting a racist message on Facebook.

Derek Bullock has been re-elected to run for a seat on Bolton Council in next month's local elections despite his previous suspension.

But tonight he was kicked out of the Tories after the Mirror alerted the party to a Facebook post he allegedly made.

Following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, an account on behalf of Mr. Bullock commented on a news article: "Shoot the P***s on the spot."

Mr. Bullock was chosen by the party to run for the Hulton ward, where he has been a councilor since 2019, despite having previously been suspended due to Islamophobia allegations.

In March 2020, he was disciplined after it was alleged that an anti-Muslim activist's "JihadWatch" post was posted on his Facebook.

In response to an article about the party's former chair, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, he reportedly added, "She's been a peep in the nest!"

And in another post, from February 2015, it was shown that he had shared a news article with the title "The number of Muslim children in England and Wales doubles in a decade", adding the comment "time is running out".< /p>

When approached by the Mirror, Tory leader of Bolton Council Martyn Cox defended Mr Bullock.

He said, "It's a total fake. There's no truth to it. It's a complete fakerooney. I'm absolutely confident on that."

But the Tories confirmed tonight that they had kicked Mr Bullock out of the party.

A spokesperson said, "Councillor Bullock has been kicked out of the Conservative Party."
