After a flight attendant said to NEVER wear Crocs on a plane - here a traveler explains why you should ALWAYS wear Crocs on a flightWriter Adam Erace said 'Crocs keep my feet cushioned and cool' He said that in an emergency on an airplane they would be a 'particularly reliable sight' READ MORE: Here's what happens when a passenger dies in flight

Backless shoes have recently come under fire for being inappropriate for air travel, a stewardess at American Airlines claiming they pose a safety risk.

Andrea Fischbach told whattowear.co.uk that "backless sandals make it difficult to quickly evacuate the plane... [and] may also end up flying away,” adding that “your feet are more likely to freeze, especially on a long flight.”

Does this mean that passengers should avoid wearing popular Crocs sandals on flights?

The comment by 'Andrea suggests yes, but one traveler countered that Crocs with ankle straps are great for flying, being both comfortable and secure.

Writer Adam Erace, from South Philadelphia, wrote a love letter to Crocs and their suitability for air travel in a CNN article in January, explaining that he wore them on a flight to Orlando and found them easy to put on and take off at security and he arrived at his destination with his feet feeling "great". He added: "[There was] none of the tension or throbbing that I usually feel, even in my most comfortable sneakers, after walking through two airports."
