Troublesome youth. FIFA deprives Peru of the organization of the U-17 World Cup for the second time

April 4 – Peru have been stripped of hosting the U-17 World Cup for the second time by FIFA who said there was not enough time to "secure the required investment and complete the necessary work" with the Peruvian government.

Peru should have hosted the tournament in 2021 but the finals were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

FIFA has also withdrawn the 2019 edition of the Peruvians after inspection visits revealed problems with the prepared infrastructure and organisation. When Brazil came to the rescue and hosted the tournament.

The heart of the problem is Peru's inability 'to fulfill its commitments to complete the infrastructure needed to host the tournament', FIFA said

Strongly placing the blame on the government, FIFA said: "Despite a very positive working relationship between FIFA and the FPF, it has been determined that there are no longer sufficient time to secure the required investment and complete the necessary work with the Peruvian government before the start date of the tournament.

FIFA has stated that the tournament is still scheduled to take place from November 10 to December 2, 2023, and that the Bureau of the FIFA Council (the heads of the six confederations plus the FIFA President)" will now designate a new host in due course".

This is the second week in a row that FIFA must withdraw the rights to organize a World Cup by age group from a nation.

Fifa last week withdrew the U-20 World Cup from Indonesia after the country's politicians protested Israel's participation in the tournament scheduled for May.

Argentina have reportedly said they would be ready to host the U-20 tournament. However, FIFA may decide to keep both tournaments within the confederations to which they have been allocated, with one of the Gulf nations within the AFC potentially hosting the U-20s, while Argentina could take on provides accommodation for U-17s.
