Turkey earthquake crushes hopes of Hatayspor finishing season

February 10 - Hatayspor withdrew from the Turkish Super Lig following the devastating earthquake that shook the country.

The club's sporting director, Taner Savut, is still missing and Turkish Club Union President Ali Koc told a press conference: "Hatayspor sent a letter. They informed us that 'they wouldn't play this season's games."

Hatayspor (pictured) are in just their third season in the Turkish top flight after being promoted at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Gaziantep province was close to the epicenter of the earthquake and was hit hard. Hatayspor are 14th in the Turkish top flight while Gaziantep are 10th.

"If Gaziantep FK also wants to withdraw from the league, we plan to continue with 17 teams, provided the rights of these two clubs remain intact," Koc added.

Resumption of the league has been further delayed and is now expected to resume on March 3.
