A pair of twins who were stabbed to death are to be buried with their older sister who tried to save them as the family asks people for their prayers.

Eight-year-old twins Chelsea and Christy Cawley were killed alongside their sister Lisa, 18, and will be buried after a funeral mass on Friday September 9, reports the Irish Mirror.

As a call for prayers, a family spokesperson told the outlet how the mother of three who died in the early hours of Sunday, September 4, "will never get over it."

He said, "She is in a very bad state. I would ask people to please pray for Margaret. We need prayers now.

"The support is there but everyone is in shock. I don't know how she will recover. She will never recover."

The dark affair has struck a chord with a stunned Irish public who have so far raised well over the expected €5,000, the equivalent of around £4,200.

At the time of writing, over £51,210 has been raised, with the largest donations being £5,800 from another person with the surname 'Cawley'.
