Twitter top brass gutted as Elon Musk takeover begins

Part of Twitter's C suite is said to have been flushed out by the company's new owner, along with its CEO, CFO and chief legal officer all sacked Elon Musk's first day at the helm.

Elon Musk reportedly completed his $44 billion takeover of social media platform Twitter on Oct. 27 and began his tenure at the company by cleaning up at the senior management level.

According to multiple outlet sources, CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and Legal and Policy Director Vijaya Gadde have been sacked, with Musk accusing them of misleading him about the number of accounts of spam on the platform. .

Agrawal and Segal were "escorted" out of company headquarters when the deal was struck, Reuters sources say.

Musk had previously tried to pull out of the deal to buy Twitter in July, accusing the company of making "false and misleading statements" regarding the number of spam and fake accounts.

With the deal now done, Musk is looking to turn the platform into a bastion of free speech, tweak algorithms to prevent political echo chambers, and remove all fake accounts and spam.

In an open letter to Twitter advertisers on Oct. 27, Musk further reiterated his motives for buying Twitter, saying it is important for "the future of civilization to have a common digital public square" free from of political polarization.
