Two theme park thrill seekers fight for their lives in hospital after the riverboat they were riding derailed and flew over the side of the ride.

The incident took place at Allou! Fun Park near Athens, Greece on Tuesday nights.

According to reports, the La Isla lumber channel derailed as it raced down a slope, sending four park visitors flying over the side and into a nearby bush.

Police have arrested the person responsible for operating the park, the report.

A 21-year-old woman was admitted to intensive care with serious injuries while a 24-year-old man suffered a ruptured spleen. Both are said to be in serious condition.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a concussion, and a 25-year-old man with minor injuries was treated at Nikaia Agios Panteleimon General Hospital and later discharged .

The La Isla trip includes separate boats that can accommodate up to four people.

Moving on rails, the boat reaches a height of 15 meters before plunging into the water below and braking.

According to reports, the water level was not at the correct limit and the boat did not brake, causing it to derail and fly out of the waterline channel.

Park users called emergency services and two arrests were reportedly made, including the shift supervisor and a legal representative.
