The UK experienced a mix of hot and humid conditions over the bank holiday weekend, but temperatures are expected to drop as winds begin to pick up.

As Britons enjoyed the three-day weekend, which comes into play next week well before King Charles' coronation, temperatures soared to highs of 19C in southern England as glorious sunshine has hit many parts of the country.

That didn't deter pockets of showers which broke through the best weather across the UK, albeit in warmer conditions than in recent days.

Wales saw highs between 14C and 16C over Bank Holiday Monday, while Scotland also hit the mid-teens despite long spells of rain to kick off May.

The slight increase in temperature is unfortunately only a minor increase, as the next two days are expected to be below average for this time of year.

With the anticyclone to the south-west of the UK and the isobars tightening, winds are expected to pick up in the middle of the work week.

Tuesday is expected to be drier across the UK, with afternoon sunny spells, Northern Ireland, Wales and southern England reaching highs of around 16 °C.

Met Office meteorologist Rachel Ayers said: "Away from Northern Ireland and Scotland, the start of Tuesday will be quite cloudy, with mist and fog lifting and moving into the morning. The weather will however be mostly dry, we might see the odd patch of rain and drizzle in any thicker clouds.
