The Met Office predicts mild, drier conditions for the UK

Snow could soon fall in parts of the UK as another cold spell arrives, forecasters say.

Much of the country has been able to enjoy relatively dry and warm weather lately after a rainy and at times cold January, with overnight temperatures reaching 10°C in London on Friday.

But that could soon change when conditions turn more wintery early next week, with frosts and a few snow showers likely.

The Met Office's latest long range forecast for Monday 6th February to Wednesday 15th February reads: "For many there is expected to be a lot of generally dry to rather cold weather likely to last a few days, with frost overnight and possibly patchy fog in the south and a small chance of very cold conditions and flurries from the east."

It comes at the start of what could be a cold month, with some fearing a "Beast from the East" type winter storm could occur in the coming weeks due to an incoming high pressure system.

While the Met Office may have ruled out the chances of a repeat of 2018's infamous cold spell, it raised the possibility of "some freezing nights and colder days" as the air coldest continental Europe is sweeping the country.

The National Forecaster's new blog post reads: "There is a small chance - about 15% - that we will see an even colder, longer and more widespread spell of very cold weather with the possibility of some winter weather impacts. This scenario depends on where the high pressure sets in relative to the UK."
