UK weather: strong winds expected for Friday

The Met Office has warned Britons to expect thunderstorms over large swaths of the country before experts predict a scorching weekend.

In a severe weather warning issued earlier, Britons were warned of a six-hour thunderstorm set to hit the UK on Friday by the Met Office. After a brief respite from the rain showers that hit the country in July and early August, there were blue skies and sunshine in parts midweek. But for Friday, unstable conditions should return.

Up to 40mm of rain can fall in parts of the UK. In general, in August, 63 mm of rain can fall on the south-east of England during the whole month.

The South Coast, South East, Midlands, South West and parts of Wales are all on alert for heavy rain, thunder and lightning which will unfold from 6am at noon. And there is also a separate warning for strong winds which will blow over North and West Wales.

The Met Office said: "A line of thunderstorms is expected to develop Friday morning and move gradually northeast before weakening in the afternoon. While most places will only see "a short period of heavy rain, some places may see 30-40 mm of rain in less than 2 hours. In addition to heavy rain, some thunderstorms may produce frequent lightning."

The forecaster said residents of the affected region should expect an impact on driving conditions resulting in longer journey times as well as a risk of flooding of homes and businesses. There may also be damage to buildings due to lightning and power failure.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: "The main event comes on Friday evening, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms breaking out over parts of England bringing lots of rain in a short time. weather, as well as the risk of frequent hail and lightning.
