Securing multi-cloud environments is not easy, especially for large organizations like the US military. As the Russian-Ukrainian war continues and offensive operations on both sides of the conflict intensify, cyberattacks sponsored by nation states remain a constant threat.

Yet despite this heightened threat landscape, the U.S. military has the confidence to fully embrace remote working and collaboration.

Last week, Google Cloud announced the US military's new partnership with Google Public Sector, which will provide 250,000 soldiers with Google Workspace, after Google obtained Impact Level 4 (IL4) clearance from the Department of Defense (DoD).

The decision is notable because it underscores that businesses don't need to abandon digital collaboration tools to stay productive. By prioritizing tools that enable Zero Trust access controls, enterprises can reliably secure their multicloud environments against the most determined attackers.

This announcement comes after Google announced the launch of Google Public Sector (GPS) in June 2022. This new division is designed to help public sector entities such as federal, state, and local governments and institutions education to accelerate their digital transformations.

For the U.S. military, part of that process is securing collaboration for personnel working at different remote sites and training bases. One of the essential components of collaboration security through Google Workspace is zero trust.

"As the Biden Administration's Executive Order on Improving National Cybersecurity indicates, it is important for the federal government to adopt security best practices that progress toward a zero-trust architecture to keep pace today's increasingly sophisticated cyber threat environment," said Will Grannis, CEO of GPS.

"We offer products with security 'built in' to the product so our customers don't need expensive add-ons. For example, Google Workspace leverages Google's zero-trust technologies to provide a secure email solution, communication and collaboration platform and is part of a set of existing Google Cloud solutions that can help accelerate any agency's zero-trust efforts...
