Six members of the United States Congress have called on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the United States Department of Justice to investigate Prometheum, claiming the company has ties to the Communist Party Chinese.

In a July 10 letter, Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville and five members of the House of Representatives alleged that Prometheum co-CEO Aaron Kaplan provided false testimony during a June 13 on regulatory clarity in the crypto space. US lawmakers claimed that Prometheum was in contact with investors "with ties" to the Chinese Community Party: Shanghai Wanxiang Blockchain and HashKey Digital Asset Group.

According to Tuberville and the reps, Kaplan's congressional testimony suggested Prometheum was developed independently of Wanxiang and HashKey, allegedly contradicting information the company had provided in SEC filings. Lawmakers called on SEC Chairman Gary Gensler and Attorney General Merrick Garland to look into the matter.
