US denounces China's non-neutral stance - Ally UK urges Xi Jinping to 'use his influence with Putin to end the war'

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has urged Chinese President Xi Jinping to "use his influence with Vladimir Putin to end this war".

What happened: Sunak on Tuesday also warned that China's actions are "undermining its credibility" as a neutral party in Ukraine after Xi visited Russia to meet Putin to discuss the war.

It was 'clear that Russia depends on China' after Xi and Russian leader meet in Moscow, Sunak said, speaking at a committee hearing parliamentarian in London, Bloomberg reported.

Sunak also "praised China's support for Ukraine's territorial integrity". However, he said the Xi government's decision to refrain from abiding by UN Security Council resolutions and its "actions elsewhere" showed it was not a neutral party in the conflict.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States supports Ukraine's peace framework, which requires the withdrawal of all Russian forces from the territory Ukrainian.

Blinken indirectly criticized China's 12-point peace plan which proposes a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

"We should all be acutely aware - and wary - of what may appear to be well-intentioned efforts, for example to call for ceasefires, which would potentially have the effect of freezing the conflict in place, allowing Russia to consolidate the gains it has made, and simply use the time to rest and refit, and then attack again,” Blinken said.
