A key figure in the Conservative by-election campaign in Uxbridge and South Ruislip has refused to back down from his call for the NHS to be abolished.

As voters headed to the polls in the tight ballot today, Reem Ibrahim stood by his criticism of the health service.

The campaigner, who believes the creation of the NHS was a 'mistake', has signed the nomination papers for Conservative Party candidate Steve Tuckwell.

A shameless Ms Ibrahim has launched yet another attack on the healthcare system after the Mirror revealed her desire to get rid of it. She tweeted: “The hysteria around my criticism of the NHS is outlandish.

"I'm not going to play politics, I just want better healthcare delivery, and clearly the NHS as a system is not working. All over the world there are systems that involve the private sector and are more efficient."

In another post, she appeared to admit the health service was struggling after 13 years of Tory neglect. She wrote: "It's impossible to get a GP appointment, there are record levels of people on waiting lists for treatment, and we have some of the highest preventable deaths in Europe...and somehow I'm crazy to suggest we need healthcare reform?"

Labour said it showed the Tories could not be trusted with the NHS.

In the wake of the November 2021 pandemic, Ms Ibrahim tweeted 'The NHS is certainly not something to be proud of.' In May this year, she posted: "Break up the NHS (or get rid of it altogether).

Last month she added: "We just shouldn't have an NHS." And earlier this month, as the health service celebrates its 75th anniversary, she wrote: "Creating the NHS was a mistake."

Labour is hoping to overthrow the Tory majority in the west London seat where Boris Johnson was an MP during the by-election. He resigned in disgrace ahead of a damning report that revealed he lied and lied and lied about Partygate.
