Labour veteran Nick Brown has had his whip suspended following a complaint against him.

The former Chief Whip, who has been an MP since 1983, has been placed on administrative suspension while the matter is investigated.

Mr. Brown also had his party membership suspended until the complaint was resolved. Details of the allegation are not known.

"I am not aware of the complaint.

"I am cooperating fully with the investigation."

Mr. Brown was not informed of the subject matter of the complaint, according to the report.

As part of Labour's independent complaints process, MPs have the whip automatically suspended while an allegation is investigated.

The temporary loss of whip means they cannot sit as a Labor MP during this time.

The former minister is one of the longest-serving Labor MPs and has served as Chief Whip under every party leader since Tony Blair.

He left the role of enforcer when Keir Starmer reshuffled his top team last May, following Labor's local election losses and Hartlepool's disastrous by-election defeat.

The Labor Party declined to comment. Mr Brown was approached for comment by the Mirror.
