Vladimir Putin could be killed by his own allies before he has a chance to launch a nuclear attack, expert says, as key members of the military say Russia's huge mobilization campaign is a "fatal error".

In an extraordinary speech on Wednesday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia's first mobilization since World War II and launched a chilling nuclear threat to the West.

The warmonger said the West was plotting to destroy his country and he accused countries of encouraging Ukraine to push military operations in Russia itself.

Putin said he had weapons to respond to Western threats.

The Russian President also confirmed the implementation of partial military mobilization - rounding up and preparing civilians to become troops for active duty.
