Why everyone is on strike: union leaders answer your questions LIVE

Watch LIVE union leaders answer your questions about why their members voted to strike.

The Mirror is hosting a special event from 5-6pm with UK union bosses where they will answer questions and explain why industrial action was needed.

Strikes have reached their highest level in more than a decade and are expected to intensify further. Today marks the start of a month-long wave of rail disruptions, as nurses also prepare to go on strike for the very first time.

This is in addition to planned strikes by other emergency personnel, such as ambulance and paramedics, and Royal Mail postal workers and examiners.

So why are so many workers, in both the private and public sectors, being pressured to go on strike this winter?

We put your questions directly to RCN Nurses Union leader Pat Cullen, Frances O'Grady of the TUC, Sharon Graham of Unite, Training Workers Union leaders Mick Whelan of Aslef and Mick Lynch of RMT, and education union leaders Jo Grady of UCU and Kevin Courtney of NEU.

They will talk about why their members need a raise, the threat to jobs, and why so many workers have to turn to food banks to make ends meet...and any other questions you want to ask them.

The Union Question Time Live Stream is hosted by our Associate Editor Kevin Maguire.

Send your questions in advance to features@mirror.co.uk and submit your questions as comments or tweets during the broadcast.
