Watch Rishi Sunak and Emmanuel Macron hold a joint press conference after their bilateral summit.

The Prime Minister arrived in Paris on Friday March 10 in the hope to "strengthen and deepen" cooperation with France on the fight against migrant crossings of the Channel.

Discussions between Mr. Sunak and Mr. Macron marked the first France-Kingdom summit United in five years.

Paris was reportedly told the talks were to be seen as the "beginning of a beautiful, renewed friendship", but despite this, Mr Macron is expected to rejects calls from Britain to return asylum seekers by small boat to France.

Mr. Sunak is known to want such a deal, which would allow the UK to immediately return those arriving illegally on British shores from France.

The Prime Minister has moved to stop small boats from crossing the English Channel between England and France as one of its five priorities ahead of the next election.
