A Welsh politician who posed with a gun in an 'anti-English' post has been investigated by police

Wales Police investigating councilor on a social media post that showed him brandishing a gun and saying he wanted to make sure "there were no English people trying to cross the Channel".

Jon Scriven, a Plaid Cymru representative at Caerphilly Council, was also suspended by the Welsh Nationalist Party for the post, as he faces accusations of anti-English 'xenophobia'.

The Plaid adviser went on to deleted and apologized for the 'misjudged' photo posted on Facebook, taken at the village of Ogmore-by-Sea which overlooks the Bristol Channel opposite England.

Police in South Wales said she was "aware of a social media post featuring a man wielding what looks like a rifle in Ogmore-by-Mer."

Force Superintendent Michelle Conquer said: "An allegation of malicious communications has been reported to us and we are investigating the matter."

The full post, uploaded by Scriven on August 8, read: "Ogmore-by-Sea tonight for a quick swim and make sure that there were no English people trying to cross the Channel."

This has sparked outrage and accusations of xenophobia towards the English. Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies tweeted on Monday that he was "speechless", adding "This kind of xenophobic attitude is beneath us."

Chris Bryant, Labor MP for Rhondda in the South Wales, described the adviser's message as "appalling".
