Wish: New Disney movie lacks usual magic, critics say

From the moment the first princess in 1937 debuted on our screens, Disney knew it had created a formula winning, and almost 100 years later, these timeless tales and enchanting characters still captivate the minds of audiences.

However, Disney's Wish appears to have missed the mark with critics - falling somewhere between honoring past nostalgia for classic fairy tales and launching into a new era of modern filmmaking.

"It seems Disney prefers not to go in any single direction, and Wish represents a delicate marriage of old and new ways," wrote The Hollywood Reporter's Lovia Gyarkye.

"At the heart of Wish is a topical theme. and a winning formula, so it's a shame it's wasted in favor of a lukewarm and ultimately safe conclusion. "

The film, co-written by Frozen's Jennifer Lee, follows the story of 17-year-old Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose) who lives in a country where the inhabitants share their greatest wish with King Magnifico in the hope that it will come true.

However, within an hour and a half, Asha comes true that she must save her kingdom from the sinister...
