India: A woman shows off a diamond she discovered in the forest

Genda Bai found the gemstone on July 27 after going to the forest to collect firewood in Purushottampur village in Panna district, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Remarkable footage shows the woman in a red sari holding the diamond between her fingers, as she later hands it to one of the officials who wraps it with a piece of paper.

Its estimated price was Rs20,000 (£20,614), while it is expected to fetch over £20,000.

The wife, who often sold firewood and used her wages to pay for repairs, picked it up and rushed home to tell her husband of her find.

The couple could not identify the sparkling stone and went straight to the diamond office, where they met diamond expert Anupam Singh who revealed its true value.

And now the diamond will be sold at an upcoming diamond auction, where it is hoped to fetch a hefty sum for the deserving finder.
