'Workaholics' Movie Dead at Paramount+ Five Weeks Before Production, Says Adam DeVine

Paramount+ has just crushed the hopes of fans of "Workaholics" with seven seasons and a movie.

Fan-favorite star Adam DeVine has confirmed that the planned 'Workaholics' movie was officially canceled by Paramount+ just weeks before production. The film version was announced in 2021, indicating that the plot was about working in offices during the pandemic.

"Welp, Paramount+ has decided to cancel the movie 'Workaholics,'" DeVine said on Instagram. "Obviously this news is the loosest asshole. We were supposed to start filming in 5 weeks! [Paramount+] told us that [we] don't fit their new 'overall' strategy. We are deeply hurt by this decision because we were so excited to bring the weird one last time"

The 'Pitch Perfect' actor continued, "I hurt my ass for not being able to work with my best friends anymore. I hurt my ass for the fans, and I hurt my ass for our loyal team and the other cast members who are now going to have to scramble to find new jobs. We're looking for other streamers, and hopefully we can make this amazingly fun movie somewhere else."

DeVine and "Workaholics" co-creators Blake Anderson and Anders Holm will discuss the film's cancellation on their January 10 episode of the "This is Important" podcast.

Comedy Central's "Workaholics" series aired from 2011 to 2017, with the trio featuring college dropouts who work at a telemarketing company. Jillian Bell, Maribeth Monroe and Erik Griffin also starred on the comedy show which often made celebrity appearances.

As "Workaholics" searches for a new home, another TV series is reborn as a feature film, the long-awaited "Community" movie, moves forward at Peacock. However, original cast members Donald Glover, Chevy Chase and Yvette Nicole Brown are not publicly attached to the star. Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong will reprise their respective roles.

"'Six Seasons and a Movie' started as a cheeky line from the early seasons of 'Community' and quickly sparked a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy," Susan Rovner, president, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said. "We are extremely grateful that 15 years later, we are able to offer fans this promised film."
