Wright and Neville disagree as pundit explains main reason Liverpool have become 'very easy' to exploit

Ian Wright thinks he knows why Liverpool have become 'very easy' to play against this season as their struggles continued against Brighton on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp's side are enduring a troubling campaign in 2022/23 and suffered another setback this weekend against Brighton.

The journey to face the Seagulls proved to be a difficult one for all Premier League sides and the hosts were brilliant in warding off Liverpool.

Solly March netted a brace and Danny Welbeck scored late as Brighton prevailed 3-0 and they are now above Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Liverpool have already conceded they are out of title contention as they are 19 points behind leaders Arsenal.

It is also going to be difficult for them to qualify for the Champions League, as ten points now separate them from fourth-placed Man Utd.

This comes after the Reds came close to winning the Premier League title last season. They were edged out by Man City on the final day.

Ian Wright has now suggested that years spent 'chasing City' have 'taken their toll' on Liverpool.

"We're talking about a Liverpool side who were amazing in terms of pressing up front and getting back out of midfield and then they win the ball high," Wright said via Match of the Day.

"When you look at how far away they are from people, it seems like they don't get close enough. I feel like it's very hard for them.

"These seasons of chasing City, I think it's taken its toll. Especially trying to play the high line when you're not getting midfielders close enough to other midfielders to stop them playing that ball through above or play that ball through the lines.

"It just seems like it's very easy to pass by the minute."

Gary Neville disagrees with Wright, however. Instead, the Man Utd legend feels Liverpool are going through a 'dip'.

"I don't know because I was at Manchester United for 20 years, under a manager who demanded that effort every day and there was a group of players who had been there for ten or 15 years," Neville said.

“There was a strange swimming season and that could be it. with each attack and they will have to regroup.

"It's really weird and strange because we couldn't speak highly of Jurgen Klopp anymore and what he did at Liverpool and the efforts he extracted from his team."
