The visitors raced to 434-6 before declaring from the last session, placing their opponents it is very unlikely that 498 will win. Lyth top scored with 113, while Root contributed 51, Brook 68 and George Hill 58.

The opening partnership had reached 180 when Gloucestershire skipper Graeme van Buuren struck to pin Bean lbw. It was 194-1 at lunch, with Yorkshire leading by 257.

Lyth fell to Van Buuren . and the Gloucestershire skipper claimed a third wicket when first innings centurion Shan Masood was brilliantly stumped by James Bracey.

Yorkshire were 272-3 and Root progressed serenely to fifty, but fell to more brilliance from Bracey as the wicketkeeper dove at full length to keep out Zaman Akhter with one hand on the leg side.

Brook went to an unlucky half-century and was unbeaten on 51 when tea was taken at 365-4, but was then caught at mid-wicket off De Lange.
