"You Won't Be Alone" Wins Bucheon Award at BiFan Festival

The Goran Stolevski-directed horror drama "You Won't Be Alone" was named Best Picture at the Bucheon International Fantasy Film Festival, Korea's premier genre film event, on Thursday.

The Australia-UK-Serbia co-production is set in Macedonia and stars Noomi Rapace in a 19th-century tale about a young girl turned into a witch. It premiered at Sundance in January and recently performed in Sydney. At the Palm Springs Film Festival, Stolevski won the "Directors to Watch" award.

His upcoming feature, 'Of An Age', about a whirlwind gay romance, has already been completed and will be the opening film at the Melbourne Film Festival next month.

The BiFan jury praised "You Won't Be Alone". "It is a phenomenal attempt to interpret the fundamentals of humanity through genre cinema using alienated and isolated human creatures borrowed from folk tales, added with mystery. This masterpiece is distinguished by a excellent direction and a clever approach evoking empathy from the abyss of human psychology,” the jurors said.

"Body Parts", a five-unit anthology film, won the Korean Fantastic Features section. His five horror stories are meant to stand on their own as shorts while connecting to each other and can be watched as a feature film.

The festival continues until Sunday and will end with Jung Bum-shik's "new Normal"
