A young girl's mild ear infection was found to be a form of childhood blood cancer, with doctors saying it was one of the highest rates of leukemia in history. they have "never seen".

Sophie, now 12, suffered from a number of ear infections which did not seem to improve for several months before worsening over a period of six weeks.

Mum Christine Tylee, 45, and husband Paul Berude, 51, have two other children - Emily, 15, and Andrew, nine - and said Sophie has grown from a normal, happy child to develop a number of disturbing symptoms.

Sophie often cried at the end of the school day if her mother didn't have the nearest car park because her legs were tired, said Christine, from Australia.

Her daughter also complained of a stomach ache and, because she had celiac disease, thought that Sophie might have inherited it.

It's only now, looking at old photos, that Christine fully notices how pale her youngest daughter looked after she started developing incessant ear infections in 2016.
