Chi na sent a record number of military planes to threaten Taiwan on Sunday and Monday morning, a signal that Beijing wants to keep the pressure on Taiwan even as some tensions between China and the United States States are fading.
According to Taiwan, military activity included at least 71 aircraft consisting of Chinese fighter jets, maritime patrol aircraft and drones. Taiwan says 47 of those planes crossed the so-called median line in a provocative violation of an informal boundary between the two sides.
The big show of force is came after President Biden bolstered US support for self-governing island democracy: A military policy bill he signed on Friday approved up to $10 billion over the next five years for Taiwan .
