The creators of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Yuga Labs, are set to end support for OpenSea following the platform's upcoming removal of its royalty enforcement tool on the Operator Filter chain.

The Operator Filter was launched in November 2022, essentially allowing creators to restrict non-fungible secondary token sales only to marketplaces that apply creator royalties, thereby filtering out platforms like Blur.

However, OpenSea revealed on August 17 that it would soon "shut down" the tool at the end of August, citing a lack of "wide ecosystem buy-in", platforms -shapes that can bypass the tool and repel creators.

The next day, Yuga Labs CEO Daniel Alegre shared an announcement via X (Twitter), stating that the company would be phasing out the use of OpenSea's Seaport marketplace smart contract:

"Yuga Labs will begin the process of removing support for OpenSea's SeaPort for all rolling contracts and new collections, aiming to complete it in February 2024 in parallel with OpenSea's approach."

"Yuga believes in protecting creator royalties so that creators are properly compensated for their work," he added.
