- Spotify launches three new updates for its Lyrics tool
- After experimenting with Lyric Translations late last year, Spotify is rolling it out globally.
- Additionally, Lyrics will now have a new place in the Spotify app and Premium users will also have offline access to Lyrics.
Even though it’s been five years since Spotify launched Lyrics, there’s still a lot of work to be done – even though it’s one of the best music streaming services. Earlier this year, I shared my list of improvements I wanted Spotify to make in 2026, and one of them has already been addressed.
To date, the platform is rolling out not one, but three updates to its Lyrics tool, and it’s been a while coming, even though Apple Music has had one for a few months now.
The three new upgrades not only give Spotify lyrics a new look, but also give them a whole new purpose – starting with Lyric Translations.
Lyric translations are finally going global
After a successful trial in more than 25 markets, Lyric Translations is going global. Now you will be able to understand what your favorite artists are singing, regardless of your native language.
This will be useful for English speakers like me who love music from artists like Rosalia and Bad Bunny but still rely on third-party apps for translations.
Following the launch of Apple Music’s own lyric translation tool in September 2025, Spotify began experimenting with a similar feature shortly after the platform rolled out Lyric Translations upon the release of Rosalia’s album. Lux. Back then it was only available in certain markets, but that’s no longer the case.
Premium users can access lyrics offline
Do you wish you could still view lyrics while listening to music offline? Well, now you can.
In addition to lyric translations, Spotify allows Premium subscribers to access song lyrics even when listening without WiFi or service. Now you’ll never miss a line, “whether you’re underground during your ride or flying at 30,000 feet,” as Spotify puts it.
Lyrics find a new home in the reading page
Not only does Lyrics benefit from these two new upgrades, but Spotify also makes them easier to find in the app. Since Spotify launched the lyrics, they have remained in the same place in a tab below the playback bar, but they are now moved to the front.
When you open the playing page in the Spotify app, the new Lyrics tab will appear directly in the Now Playing view, where, just like before, you’ll see them scrolling while you listen to music.
Even though Spotify should have made these updates years ago, better late than never, right? Lyrics’ previous experience wasn’t the best, so hopefully this next update will give it the punch it always needs. All that remains is for Spotify to resolve its sync issues.
