Russian leaders told the presidentDonald Trump in a phone call Monday in which they denied widely reported allegations that they shared intelligence with Iran during the U.S.-led war against that country, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff said Tuesday in an interview with CNBC.
“We can take their word for it,” Witkoff told CNBC’s “Money Movers.”
“Let’s hope they don’t share,” he said.

Trump spoke with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Monday.
“Yesterday, on the call with the president, the Russians said they didn’t share,” Witkoff said Tuesday.
Read more news about the US-Iran warMS Now, in a report Saturday which cited two U.S. officials with knowledge of the situation, reported that Russia had provided Iran with information that could help that country’s forces strike U.S. ships, planes and military bases in the Middle East.
“Russia provides intelligence assistance to Iran,” one of the officials told MS Now.
When asked Tuesday whether the Russians had shared intelligence with Iran, Witkoff demurred.
“Well, I’m not an intelligence officer, so I can’t tell you,” he said.
Trump on Friday blasted Fox News reporter Peter Doocy for asking him about suggestions that Russia was helping Iran target and attack U.S. forces in the region.
“What a stupid question to ask right now,” Trump said.
An official who spoke to MS Now for Saturday’s article said, “I haven’t seen anything that suggests Russia is playing a strategic or tactical combat role.” »
