While other tech companies have been dismissal of employees year after year, OpenAI does the opposite. According to a report from Financial Timesthe AI giant is looking to increase its workforce to 8,000 employees by the end of 2026, almost double its current workforce of 4,500 people.
THE FT said the new hires will span multiple departments, including product development, engineering, research and sales. OpenAI’s hiring spree will also include “specialists” for “technical ambassador,” or employees tasked with helping companies better use its AI tools, according to the report. Like the FT Noted, OpenAI is likely trying to step up competition against Anthropic and its Claude AI chatbot. According to the AI index of Rampa fintech startup that manages enterprise spending, businesses are now 70% more likely to opt for Anthropic when purchasing AI services for the first time, as opposed to OpenAI.
OpenAI made waves in February by announcing a contract with the Ministry of Defense to use its AI models, following a public dispute between Anthropic and the federal agency. In addition to the government contract, OpenAI is also in “advanced talks” with private equity firms like Brookfield Asset Management to deploy its AI tools across a company’s portfolio of businesses, according to Reuters.
