There are over a thousand different Pokémon, and not all of them are bangers. Some of them have designs that might make you cringe, while others are just plain uninteresting. How often do you think about, say, Dewpider? or Seaking? Have you thought about the humble Taillow lately?
Well, let’s all stop being such judgmental snobs, because it turns out each Pokémon is loved by someone, and there’s a new website that proves it.
It is “Every Pokémon is someone’s favorite”, where you can name a Pokémon, write a little note explaining why you like it, and add it to a growing index of love for popular and unpopular monsters. The website, which just launched yesterday, already does this much better than the Super Bowl commercial to highlight love for individual Pokémon, and has already accumulated over 55,000 declarations of love for all 1,025 Pokémon. Yes, every Pokémon has at least one admirer! From the website, you can view stats and read notes left for each Pokémon, as well as press an “Explore” button to see a random statement for a random Pokémon, like this:

They’re also the cutest thing ever, and their strange essence touched my off-putting, isolated soul as a kid who barely knew English. I might not have known what the words in the games meant, but I knew I loved aliens.”
And some are silly, like this one for Gible: “He’s just a hungry guy” or for Wailord: “big cute whale.”
The stats page presents an interesting picture of the most popular Pokémon among users. At the time of writing, Gengar is in the lead with 725 reports, followed by Mimikyu, Bulbasaur, Absol, and Arcanine. Surprisingly, Pikachu doesn’t make the top 10 at all. You can also see the least popular monsters, including the bottom five that were chosen to complete the Pokedex on the spot: Arrokuda, Capsakid, Brute Bonnet, Nymble, and Quaxwell. Most of the less popular creatures come from the newer games, which suggests to me that people simply haven’t had as much time to get to know them as other monsters.
©Every Pokémon is someone’s favorite It seems the least popular member of the original 151 is poor Goldeen with only four statements, although she does have some good notes about her: “I had the card when I was five and thought it was the prettiest” is one, as is “She is beauty, she is grace, she is a transmasc king waiting to bloom. I am in love with her Generation 1 Pokémon card, and regardless of her in-game stats, let her be useful or not in the game, I think she’s the best. She reminds me of the goldfish. Fantasy. Regardless, I love Golden.

Cascoon sits here and has an adorable statement that says, “It reminds me of my mom because it looks like a ball of yarn and she knitted a lot. Also, it evolves into Dustox which is pretty cool and it looks like (•w•)
