Get ready: wedding season is about to start. If you’re of a certain age, that probably means several weddings to go through, and by the time you’ve wrapped up the weekend, booked accommodation, and made a transportation plan, you can’t be blamed for lacking the mental energy to figure out what to buy as a gift.
Many couples will have a gift list or ask for money, but what if you want something a little more personal? What if you know them well enough that getting off the list is the only way to go? Below I’ve put together a selection of gifts that I think would make a welcome addition to any newlywed couple’s home. I spent two years as TechRadar Homes editor, and many of them are gadgets and appliances that I tested during that time, or are from brands that have consistently impressed me with their design and build quality.
It’s much more common for couples to live together before getting married these days, so rather than asking for ‘starter’ items to settle down, we’re seeing a shift towards more high-end purchases from heritage brands. Think Le Creuset cast iron, KitchenAid stand mixers, and decent coffee machines. These choices will replace devices that might have been inherited from student days and will continue into adult life. In my summary, I also offered many curvy options for couples who already seem to have everything.
I’ve tried to find options that are useful but still feel like a gift – I’ve avoided things like Dyson vacuums, for example (although if you know a couple of neat freaks, I wouldn’t rule one out). Oh, and this list might also be helpful if you’re getting married yourself this summer and are struggling to come up with ideas for what to include in your registry.
