The United States men’s national team became the second nation to secure a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup – and they clinched the top spot in Group D. Despite their loss to Turkey, the United States’ fate for the Round of 16 is still determined after winning Group D. Next up for the Americans is a match against Bosnia-Herzegovina next Wednesday night in the Bay Area (kickoff at 8 p.m. ET on FOX and streaming on FOX One). As we’re in the middle of each nation’s group stage final, here’s a closer look at the World Cup bracket and storylines. GO TO: Group A | Group B | Group C | Group DGroup E | Group F | Group G | Group HGroup I | Group J | Group K | Group L Third Place Standings Round of 32 Shows (All records are win-draw-loss) Group A Mexico won to reach a 3-0-0 record, but the shock came from South Africa’s victory over South Korea. The result gives Bafana Bafana second place in the group, while South Korea now have to wait until Saturday to see if they advance to the knockout stages. Group B Switzerland advanced to the round of 16 as winners of Group B with a 2-1 victory over Canada on Wednesday at BC Place Vancouver. Canada placed second with four points. Bosnia and Herzegovina – who, after a 3-1 win over Qatar, also finished the group match with four points but trail Canada on goal difference – are also through to the round of 16 as one of the eight best third-place teams. Group C Brazil and Morocco both finished Group C with seven points and qualified, but it was Brazil who advanced to the round of 16 as Group C winners on goal difference. Brazil scored three goals against Scotland while conceding just one goal throughout the group stage. Morocco scored four against Haiti but conceded two. Scotland were eliminated from the tournament after failing to score a goal against Brazil. Haiti had already been eliminated from qualification for its final matchday. Group D The USA-Türkiye match on Thursday evening brought nothing to the group table. The United States had already won the group, meaning their 3-2 loss did not affect their position for the round of 16. Paraguay and Australia drew 0-0, so the Socceroos moved up to second place thanks to their better goal difference. Paraguay have four points and are fourth in the third-place standings, and they could potentially clinch their place in the round of 16 if results are confirmed over the next two matchdays. Group E Germany won Group E, but lost their final group stage match to Ecuador, a result with huge consequences. With this victory, Ecuador qualified for the round of 16, which placed them at the top of the ranking of the teams having finished in third place in their group. Ivory Coast ended their group stage matches with a double from Nicolas Pépé to beat Curaçao. This victory means that Ivory Coast finishes second. Group F The Netherlands will top Group F with a convincing 3-1 victory over Tunisia. The Dutch beat Sweden and the Tunisians after a 2-2 draw against Japan in their first match. Now, the Netherlands will face Morocco in the round of 16. Japan finished second in this group with five points with a victory against Tunisia and draws against the Netherlands and Sweden. Japan’s prize for finishing second is a match against Brazil in the round of 16. Sweden also qualified for the round of 16 thanks to their draw against Japan, which put them at the top of the table. Group G Belgium and Iran currently hold two points, but Egypt are in control after their victory against New Zealand. Belgium face New Zealand on the final day of this group and will need a win to feel comfortable with their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages. Group H Spain said on Sunday it remains a serious contender at the World Cup. The reigning European champions go top of the group thanks to a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia, which saw Lamine Yamal score his first ever World Cup goal and Mikel Oyarzabal record two goals and an assist. Cape Verde punched above their weight once again as they shared the points in a 2-2 draw against Uruguay. Kevin Pina and Hélio Varela scored Cape Verde’s first two goals in World Cup history. Uruguay managed to escape with a point after goals from Maxi Araujo and Agustín Canobbio prevented an early exit. The final set of matches sees Saudi Arabia take on Cape Verde, while a blockbuster match between Uruguay and Spain could decide who wins the group. Group I France beat a Norwegian team who rotated their starting XI heavily, meaning Les Bleus won Group I. France will face Sweden in the next round, while Norway, who finished second, will face Ivory Coast. Senegal took a positive step towards qualification with a 5-0 victory over Iraq. Senegal are now in fifth place in the rankings and will have to wait for further results to see if they progress. Senegal and Iraq will play for third place on Friday, with the winner of that match potentially advancing to the round of 32. Group J Argentina secured their passage to the round of 16 with a 2-0 victory over Austria, then Algeria’s victory over Jordan saw the defending champions win the group. Lionel Messi’s record-breaking goals secured victory in style. He has now scored the most goals in World Cup history and already has five in two matches in this tournament. On the last day of this group, Algeria faces Austria. There is a chance both teams advance, but a win for either team would secure advancement to the round of 16. Group K Colombia advanced to the round of 16 with a victory over DR Congo on Tuesday, and they currently lead Group K with six points. Whichever team wins between Colombia and Portugal in the Group K final on Saturday will win the group. DR Congo are still in contention for a place in the round of 16 with one point before the final day of the group stage. Uzbekistan were disqualified from the round of 16 after a defeat against Portugal on Tuesday. In Group L, England were held to a draw against Ghana, while Croatia earned a much-needed victory against Panama, who were disqualified. England and Ghana are level on four points heading into the final day of play. The Three Lions will face Panama, while Ghana will face Croatia. England currently have the advantage with a better goal difference, so they sit top of the group.
