Jean Schneider opens with his long-running legal battle with ex-wife Elvira “Elly” Castle, more than a decade after their separation.

John Schneider’s remarks come after Elvira Castle filed for more than $2.3 million in unpaid child support and interest.
John Schneider speaks out on long-running divorce dispute with ex-wife, Elvira Castle

More than a decade after the end of his marriage, John Schneider is still embroiled in a legal battle with his ex-wife Castle, and the dispute remains far from resolved.
The “Dukes of Hazzard” actor recently addressed the ongoing case during an appearance in Washington, D.C., where he appeared as part of events commemorating America’s upcoming 250th birthday.
Speaking candidly about the situation, John questioned why an ex-spouse would expect continued financial support years after a relationship ended.
According to John, he finds it difficult to understand the reasoning behind maintaining financial ties once the marriage dissolves.
“I don’t understand why anyone would feel that way…someone he threw away, right?…” he said, according to Fox News Digital. “If you throw someone away, why would you want them to continue to be a part of your life in any capacity, let alone financially? I don’t understand where the integrity is in that.”
While expressing his frustration over the long-running dispute, John stressed that he hoped a resolution was within reach. “We’re working on it,” he said, before reflecting on how long the case has dragged on.
Actor says ‘it’s a shame’ he and Elvira Castle are still fighting their divorce

Despite the years-long dispute, John remained hopeful that the issue would eventually be resolved.
“It’s a shame when people who were together turn into this. And it’s been a long time,” he said. “I mean, this divorce… She filed for divorce in 2014. My God, it’s been 12 years. So, I don’t understand it, but you know, calmer heads will prevail and we’ll get through this.”
His comments come shortly after court documents revealed Castle was seeking more than $2.3 million in unpaid child support and accrued interest. Legal documents reportedly claim the amount includes years of unpaid obligations, with interest continuing to add to the total.
The filing also seeks access to a portion of Schneider’s Screen Actors Guild pension and Social Security benefits if the unpaid amount cannot be paid directly.
Schneider, however, disputes these figures. Court records indicate his legal team contends the calculations are inaccurate and that evidence supporting the amount claimed was not properly provided.
The former couple married in 1993 before splitting more than two decades later. Castle filed for divorce in 2014 and the proceedings were finalized in 2019.
John Schneider’s ex-wife wants his SAG pension used to pay off her alleged debt

The legal battle between Schneider and Castle intensified years after their August 2019 settlement, which initially awarded her $25,000 in monthly spousal support.
Now determined to recoup unpaid funds, Castle recently turned to the courts to demand a reduction in the actor’s pension from the Screen Actors Guild.
Reportedly, if those funds weren’t enough, she requested that her Social Security payments be used to settle the alleged debt.
Together, the couple raised four children, including their biological daughter Karis, as well as Castle’s children from a previous marriage, Chasen, Mandy and Leah.
The actor had nothing but praise for his current wife, Dee Dee Sorvino

During his recent conversation with Fox News DigitalSchneider also shared his thoughts on relationships and marriage, praising his wife, Dee Dee Sorvino.
He emphasized the importance of partnership, mutual support and a conscious effort to put everyone first in a healthy relationship.
“A relationship is something that has to… It’s two-way. There are two people involved and there are two sets of responsibilities,” he explained.
The actor continued, “And your thought, again, like trying to make someone else’s day better, the first person you want to make their day better should definitely be your partner.”
John Schneider considers performing at US 250th anniversary celebration a significant honor

Away from litigation, Schneider focused on his career and personal life. During his visit to Washington, he reflected on the importance of performing at an event related to America’s 250th anniversary, describing the invitation as a significant honor.
The actor remembers celebrating the nation’s bicentennial in 1976 as a teenager on a school trip to Disney World. Looking back, he said participating in another major milestone nearly 50 years later felt surreal and deeply meaningful.
“So now to be a part of something else 50 years later, I can’t believe it, but it’s true…the 250th anniversary. And I’m proud of our country, and I’m proud of everything that’s happening right now. I know it’s a little risky for some, but you know, I believe in peace through strength, and that’s what we’re involved in right now,” he said.
