The United States launched a new round of airstrikes against Iran on Saturday evening, targeting its coastal surveillance and air defense installations, U.S. military officials said.
Iranian state media said the island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz had been hit.
Centcom said it also targeted the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), responsible for the attack that killed two American soldiers in Jordan on Friday, where another soldier is still missing.
In response to the latest strikes, the Iranian military said it had carried out drone attacks against two US bases in Kuwait, according to state media. Bahrain said it had intercepted air attacks.
The United States and Iran have stepped up attacks against each other in recent days, with both sides accused of hitting critical infrastructure.
Washington also reimposed its blockade of Iranian ports and Tehran declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, as their preliminary ceasefire collapsed less than a month after it began.
On Sunday, the IRGC said two ships ignored Iranian warnings not to transit the Strait of Hormuz and were therefore involved in “an accident.” He warned that any ships “influenced” by the United States and “taking dangerous routes” would “certainly face accidents.”
On Sunday morning, the U.S. Embassy in Amman said Jordanian authorities had evacuated the international airport and seaport in the southern city of Aqaba due to a “specific and credible threat.”
But a Jordanian government spokesperson immediately denied the claim, saying it had detected no recent threats and neither port had been evacuated.
The U.S. military said its eighth consecutive attacks on Iran were “designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz” and “swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that launched attacks against U.S. service members in Jordan last night.”
Verified footage from inside the Jordanian facility shows at least two impacts and an explosion.
