Color me, delighted – the Colorsoft Kindle has dropped below AU$300 for Amazon

I’ve tried almost all of the best e-readers available today, including Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft, which I found hard to recommend over the Kobo Libra Color or Kobo Clara Color due to its AU$399 RRP. However, there’s now an AU$100 discount on the Colorsoft, making it a fabulous color e-reader to get during Amazon’s mid-year sale.

At AU$299 for the 16GB Standard Edition, I think the 7-inch Colorsoft is not just the best color Kindle, but one of the best Kindles, period. This price drop now corresponds to the recommended price of the Paperwhite, and even though the latter has fallen to AU$239, it’s still nice to have a color screen, even if it’s just to appreciate the book covers.

Now, this isn’t the lowest price I’ve seen on the Colorsoft Kindle – it was AU$294 in December – but I think it’s still a good price to pay if you’re looking for a nice e-reader.

If it’s already dropped below AU$300, I’m tempted to say wait until Prime Day because I think it might get cheaper but, again, there are never any guarantees. We don’t even have official dates for Prime Day 2026 in Australia yet, so it’s perfectly fine not to wait – it won’t be much cheaper than that, I don’t think.

With a seven-inch color display, great battery life, waterproofing, and adjustable front lighting, our Kindle Colorsoft review described it as “the Kindle of your dreams in color.” Thanks to a dedicated Vivid mode, it really is the best color e-reader at this price.

In comparison, the Kobo Clara Color costs AU$269 RRP, but you only get a 6-inch screen here. For AU$30 more, I think the Colorsoft’s 7-inch screen offers better value for money. And while Kobo’s built-in OverDrive and Instapaper support are beneficial, the Kindle is the better buy for AU$299 if you’re already integrated into Amazon’s ecosystem.

I may not have reviewed it myself, but I spent some hands-on time with Colorsoft and found that refreshing and page turning were fast, virtually no ghosting even for image-heavy books, and text selection was pretty accurate with my sausage fingers. That’s pretty darn close to perfect for the E Ink color screen technology available today.

In fact, it’s one of the best Kindle deals I’ve seen in 2026, even surpassing the Big Smile Sale price from March of this year.
