An 'economy' trip to the Seychelles on Pegasos, a VERY small cruise ship that looks like a private yacht

'It's like chartering your own private yacht': Traveler films Seychelles trip 'deal of the century' aboard one of world's smallest cruise shipsJo Kessel boards Variety Cruises' Pegasos ship at Mahé for a seven-night trip the bridge and snorkels with turtlesShe also goes ashore and picks up the biggest seed in the world, weighing 25kg

Travel writer Jo Kessel has filmed his seven-night trip around the Seychelles, starting and ending in Mahé, an island of the archipelago, on Variety Cruises' Greek liner Pegasos. The images show how, despite the small size of the ship, there is a sun deck, an alfresco dining deck and spacious cabins. She visits the beachfront location for Tom Hanks' film Castaway and provides insight into the chef's Creole cuisine, Seychellois rum and the Carana Beach Hotel on the island of Mahé, perfect for a pre- or post-cruise stay .

The Seychelles are an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 1,400 miles east of Tanzania. The country has a reputation as a luxury destination with robberies and flops, with the most exclusive of its hotels charging from £2,000 per room per night. But there is a cheaper - and arguably better - way to explore some of the country's 115 islands… and that's by boat.

Enter the Greek liner Variety Cruises, which specializes in yacht cruises. His yacht Pegasos has been making week-long trips around the Seychelles for a decade and with full board prices starting at £1,900 pp, I hopped on board with my camera to try a little boat cruise.

Pegasos is the smallest cruise ship I have ever sailed on, with 21 cabins that can accommodate 44 passengers.

My start on the upper deck before beginning a guided tour of the entire ship, from the sundeck adorned with lounge chairs to the surprisingly spacious staterooms.
