Adama Traore must come to terms with his fate as an impact sub after screwing up the chance to contract Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers are unlikely to open contract talks with winger Adama Traore before the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Traore scored the game's only goal as Wolves beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Spaniard is enjoying life with Julen Lopetegui at the helm after a difficult spell under Bruno Lage.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and his long-term future has been up in the air for some time.

An unsuccessful loan move to Barcelona in the second half 21-22 did Traore no favors as the La Liga giants opted not to trigger his £29m option to buy.

Tottenham tried to beat Barcelona to sign the player last January, but he was not keen on playing as a right-back under Antonio Conte.

Wolves reportedly put a contract worth more than £100,000 a week on the table over a year ago, but Traore opted out of becoming the club's highest-paid player.< /p>

The 27-year-old obviously has big ambitions in the game, but - in my opinion - it's abundantly clear that he will never be a key player for a Premier League club.

"My mindset is to give my all to the team now and then we'll see," Traore said after Saturday's win over Spurs.

"I'm always happy with Wolves, the manager (Julen Lopetegui). I work here 100%, I just focus on the game.

"I focus on the pitch and after that it's for my agent. We've had a great relationship over these years. My mentality right now is to help the team when I'm on the pitch and to keep winning."

According to The Athletic, there are no talks of a new contract currently underway, and the previous offer is no longer on the table.

Lopetegui has hinted that he would be willing to keep Traore beyond the summer, although it is claimed that the player and the club are happy to wait until after the 22-23 to reopen negotiations contractual.

Traore is 'happier' under Lopetegui, which has 'increased the likelihood that he will consider' staying at Molineux.

A contract that matches the previous offer is "unlikely", however.

Traore has shone coming off the bench for the Spanish head coach, but naturally wants to play for a club that sees him as a 'key player'.

As mentioned before, he doesn't have the ability to be in the top flight, but I think he would be a great option off the bench for literally any club in the Premier League, either Arsenal or Wolves. .

Talking about Lopetegui's system and its role, Traoré said: "It's not my decision.

"What I can control is when I'm on the pitch, having an impact and trying to help the team. It's the gaffer's decision, I respect the gaffer.

“He tried to improve me as a player. Whatever minutes the team needs me to help, I will be there. Every player wants to start - there are no players in the world that doesn't want to start."

90min reported last month that Atletico Madrid had "held talks" with representatives of Traoré.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves says Traore was not thriving in the final third.

"The end product is probably not its greatest attribute," he said. "I think Adama Traoré is such a unique player. He is so explosive and powerful.

"I actually like that finish [against Spurs]. He's not trying to crush it. It's like a guided volley. It's actually a particular finish, but I think that he realizes that because he's in the air he can't hit him or else he guides him to the top corner. This shows that you don't need electricity."
