Aleali May launches the Made in L.A. collection.

Los Angeles-based stylist, influencer, model and Nike Jordan designer Aleali May has launched her own collection.

Called Mayde Worldwide, the unisex range is made up of refined essentials in silhouettes refined by May. The first bundle includes a cropped hoodie, an oversized drop shoulder hoodie, loose track pants, bike shorts, a bra top and a ribbed tank top, all in cobalt blue.

"I'm from south central LA, the Dodgers, the water here, it's is definitely a Los Angeles Color of Angeles," she said at a celebratory dinner at Horses in Hollywood on Thursday night. "A lot of people go with neutrals, but I wanted to start with something bold. ", she added of the collection, which is designed to fit people with different bust sizes and suit "both the fitted girl and the baggy girl, and I'm both dependent of the day,” she said.

Prices range from $50 to $185, and the collection is sold on MaydeWorldwide.net. There will be new drops every one to two months and collaborations starting in 2023. May is open to partner retailers as the business grows.

"There aren't many people who can wear a brand. I produce Stüssy, I I produce Undefeated, I produce Chrome Hearts. There are so many people in L.A. who are considered a spectacle against people who are watched for their influence, for dressing and being like that. Aleali is one of those people,” said said Jakob Deitell, who has partnered with her on the brand, "I think it's going to be what Yeezy could have been - specific high-end, oversized basics that we all want to wear. Things that can be worn every day and are not heavily marked."

May attended the University of Chicago and worked at the RSVP gallery of Louis Vuitton and Virgil Abloh , which became fodder for her popular Tumblr account and set her on the path to influencer status. She returned to Los Angeles in 2014 and soon took on modeling gigs with Stüssy and Vans and did hair for Kendrick Lamar and Tinashe. His clients have also included Jaden Smith, Lil Yachty and Kali Uchis. A lifelong sneaker enthusiast, keen to bring greater female representation to streetwear, she began collaborating with Nike Jordan on footwear and apparel in 2017 and is one of only two female designers to create for the brand.

She influenced a generation of creatives in L.A. and beyond, as evidenced by the crowd gathered for cheering her on Thursday, including photographer Sarah Khalid, who photographed May for the recent Mugler campaign, and also took the first images for the Mayde campaign. "She made me want to get into fashion," said Khalid, who grew up in Lebanon after May's online adventures.
