Anna Kendrick had to be 'rescued' after elevator malfunction at TIFF

Anna Kendrick was really trapped at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, because of a faulty elevator.

The 'Alice, Darling' actress shared an Instagram video showing her being stuck in an elevator on her way to her movie's premiere and press conference.

"Ah, the classic 'I'm late to this film festival because I had to be saved from an elevator' excuse #TIFF22," Kendrick joked in the caption.

'Pitch Perfect' co-star Brittany Snow commented, "Love you and that creepy AF docu-series," while fellow cast member Anna Camp wrote, "Oh my god!!!!"< /p>

Director Paul Feig added, "Oh my god! Anne! You're a rockstar."

Kendrick later said that she simply "got in the wrong elevator at the wrong time" and had to be rescued by "lovely" Canadian firefighters.

“I got out. Lovely Canadian firefighters had me crawling out the top of the hatch,” Kendrick said. “But, yeah, it was, like, seven of us in an elevator waiting just being rescued by firefighters. It was so absurd that it happened on a cinematic press tour that it seemed so immediately comical."

She added, "I couldn't stop myself from making jokes. Although it might be a defense mechanism. Come on, Anne. Do you know anything about yourself? I think it's was probably a defense mechanism. Oh no, I'm not healthy!"

Kendrick previously addressed the twisted love story at the center of “Alice, Darling” about an emotionally abusive and controlling relationship in which its titular character is also trapped.

"I was coming out of a personal experience of emotional abuse and psychological abuse," Kendrick told People when she first read the script, which "resonated" with her. "I think my rep sent it to me because he knew what I was dealing with and sent it. Because he was like, 'This matches everything you told me about.' "

The 'Love Life' star continued, "It was really different in that I had, frankly, seen a lot of movies about abusive or toxic relationships, and it didn't really feel like what I thought. It kind of helped me normalize and minimize what was happening to me, because I was like, 'Well, if I was in an abusive relationship, it would look like this.'

Reflecting on "what really happened" in his past relationship turned out to be "the most difficult task of my adult life".

"My body still thinks it was my fault," she said. "So even with this concrete starting point for me to come out of this relationship knowing that I wasn't crazy, it's amazing how difficult that recovery has been."
