Arsenal have been told they squandered £95m on two new signings in the summer. Former Gunners winger Jermaine Pennant claims Mikel Arteta should have spent a lot of money on a new striker such as Dusan Vlahovic instead.

Arsenal have spent over £210m on four new players this summer. David Raya is the latest to come through the doors of the Emirates, joining an initial loan deal from Brentford.

Arsenal have paid the Bees £3m and will pay a further £27m if they accept their option to buy the Spaniard at the end of the season. The first player to be signed by Arteta in June was Kai Havertz, who arrived from Chelsea for a fee of up to £65m.

But Pennant questioned the need for Havertz and Raya. He instead believes those funds should have been invested in signing a striker and has suggested Juventus star Vlahovic as the ideal candidate.

Pennant told bettingsites.co.uk: "Bringing in a new striker for Arsenal 100 per cent has to be the priority. Spending £65m on Kai Havertz and what could be up to £30m sterling for David Raya, nearly £100m…

"Arsenal could have signed a top striker for that money instead, which will allow them to score more than 20 goals per season, which is what they need. If Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli don't not get those numbers like they did last season, goals can be rare which is why they need a complete striker.

"Arsenal have been linked with Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus in the past and I think he would be a great addition to the club - he can also bring something different with his hold-up game, he is strong in the tunes and a good He would be a great signing and seems to be available so Arsenal should have used their money to sign someone like that.

"Arsenal have gained depth in the defensive areas and in midfield after their signings over the summer. The icing on the cake for Arsenal would now be signing a new striker."
