In Netflix Special, Mo'Nique says she confessed the 'fantasy' of being with another woman to her husband: 'The mask had to fall'

In his latest comedy special called "My Name is Mo'Nique", which aired on Netflix on April 4, Mo'Nique tearfully recounts a confession she made to husband Sidney Hicks. In the special, she tells the story of confessing to Hicks for the first time that she wanted to "be sexually with another woman."

Oscar winner, married to Hicks since 2006, reveals she kept her wishes secrets for most of his life out of fear, due to his family background. As she nears the end of her set in "My Name is Mo'Nique," she spends part of the special remembering the relationship between her grandmother MiMi and a queer family member she affectionately calls "Uncle Tina", reflecting on the distant relationship the two had due to Tina's sexuality.

Mo'Nique begins the story by noting that she felt "loose" after the her grandmother died, because she didn't share who she really was with her.

"I loved how she loved me. When we walked into the store, if I was on a magazine cover, she made sure everyone in that goddamn store knew I was her grandson and I was her prize,” Mo'Nique explains in the special. So I couldn't tell my grandmother my secret thoughts and fantasies because I didn't want her to love me privately, and I didn't want her to leave this earth thinking she was a failed."

She adds: "But I kept this a secret, and I promised myself never to tell anyone this. I would take this to my grave, because I saw how they treated my family members with this disease, because they made us believe it was a disease."

However, that changed when she met her third husband Sidney Hicks, she tells the crowd. Despite her fear, Mo'Nique reveals that she felt the need to tell her husband her long-held fantasy.

"I'm so scared, because I say, 'Please, when I Tell you, don't walk away from me - because it's gonna take my breath away. But I have to tell you, because you know me, you know when something's wrong? And something's been wrong for ages. years. But because I'm a celebrity, a star, I could hide it. I could hide it with my pretty things. But that night, the mask had to fall", she says, before sharing her secret he "beautifully" received with a playful joke.

She brings it all to light, adding a lewd joke: "I have to keep it as a fantasy , because I know myself and they would talk about me in the LGBTQ community. They were talking about me, and they said this bitch is fighting for equality, but this bitch is not willing to give equality."

Also in the special, Mo'Nique talks about her experience growing up in Baltimore and going through the special education, as well as its first lessons on men. She will next be seen in the upcoming Netflix movie "The Deliverance" by Lee Daniels.
