Arteta reveals Arsenal transfer intentions as Deadline Day deals could happen again

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed the club 'hopes' to remain active in the transfer market after signing five new players.

Gabriel Jesus, Oleksander Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos all joined the Gunners during the summer transfer window.

It has been a superb pre-season for the north Londoners, who beat Chelsea 4-0 in Orlando last week before winning 6-0 against Sevilla on Saturday in their last friendly before kicking off the Premier season League at Crystal Palace on Friday.

Their trip to Selhurst Park promises to be difficult, but optimism is high at the club.

After Arsenal's huge victory over Sevilla in the Emirates Cup, Arteta was asked whether or not he hopes to improve his squad further before the transfer window closes.

“We still hope to do something else if the market allows it,” he said (quotes via Sam Blitz). “You have also seen some movement in recent days.

"We want to achieve the perfect balance and plan that we wanted from the start. Whether we achieve that or not is another story."

If Arsenal return to the market, they are expected to be looking for a new winger and/or central midfielder.

They've been quite active on transfer deadline day for the past few years and it's a trend that may well continue given Arteta's comments and current rumours.

The Gunners signed Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna last summer, a year after Thomas Partey arrived on the last day of the window.

The previous year, Kieran Tierney and David Luiz signed on August 8, the 2019 deadline.

Arsenal have been linked with Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans all summer.

The Belgian is said to be very keen on a move to the Emirates, however, the North Londoners have yet to make an official offer.

He's out of contract at the end of 2022/23, and Arsenal can wait until then, but if he doesn't, that's the kind of transfer that could be finalized in the 11th hour.

The Gunners had two offers for Raphinha rejected by Leeds United earlier this summer. The Brazilian has since joined Barcelona, ​​but initial interest from the Premier League club has indicated Arteta is still on the hunt for a winger.

There has been talk of a 'mystery winger' - although journalists can tell because of Raphinha's candidacies.

A few names have been mentioned – Bayern Munich's Leroy Sane and West Ham's Jarrod Bowen – but there don't seem to be any concrete links as things stand.
