Top scorers in 2023: Erling Haaland extends lead he may never give up

Erling Haaland, Victor Osimhen and Marcus Rashford had topped the list of top scorers in 2023, but back-to-back hat-tricks also put Karim Benzema in the game.

Kylian Mbappe led the list of top scorers of 2022 with six goals from the old man at Barcelona. But he couldn't win the France World Cup, stupid fraud.

Criteria: All club goals in all competitions for clubs in Europe's top five leagues.

10) Youssef En-Nesyri – Sevilla (12 goals) His seven La Liga goals this season have come since 2022 became 2023. The goal that beat Portugal in the World Cup clearly gave him confidence.

9) Kylian Mbappe – PSG (12 goals) Not one goal in defeats to Bayern Munich, Rennes, Lyon or Nice kept him off track in 2023, although Lens got him back on track.

8) Wissam Ben Yedder – Monaco (12 goals) Twelve goals in 16 games for Ben Yedder, who needs just three more for a third straight season of 20 top-flight goals.

7) Jonathan David - Lille (13 goals) The Canadian striker whose price is now north of £50m as Milan and Arsenal show interest.

6) Thijs Dallinga – Toulouse (13 goals) Neither do we. He's Dutch, he's cost them around £2m this summer and while there have been a few stats against lower league French sides in the cup, there have also been eight in the league. /p>

5) Alexandre Lacazette – Lyon (13 goals) There was a hat-trick against Chambéry in the cup to boost the numbers but it's still a 19-goal season in Ligue 1 for the 31-year-old.< /p >

4) Victor Osimhen - Napoli (15 goals) Two more goals against Torino took the Nigerian striker to 15 goals in 15 games in 2023. It's no wonder he's so hotly sought after by all big clubs in Europe. Nor that Napoli lost twice to Milan in his absence through injury.

3) Marcus Rashford - Man Utd (17 goals) The Conservatives' least favorite football personality, not named Gary Lineker, is on the rise. The youngest England or Man Utd player to score 25 goals in European competition isn't too bad. Wounds now reduce it.

2) Karim Benzema – Real Madrid (17 goals) Back-to-back hat-tricks against Real Valladolid and Barcelona made it 19 goals in as many post-World Cup games for Karim Benzema, who drew against Villarreal but went on to scored against Chelsea. Because of course he did.

1) Erling Haaland - Manchester City (20 goals) A brace before being hung at half-time against Leicester took it to 47 in his debut campaign for Man City. It's a ridiculous Haaland season.
