Baby pulled from rubble of Turkey earthquake and reunited with mom

A three-and-a-half-month-old baby has been reunited with his mother, 54 days after being rescued from rubble in quake-hit southern Turkey.

Vetin Begdas was rescued in Hatay province 128 hours after devastating earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria in early February.

She had been named Gizem (Mystery) by the medical authorities who took care of her after her rescue.

This week, she was reunited with her mother who had previously been declared dead, according to Turkey's Ministry of Family and Social Services.

The baby and the mother were only reunited thanks to a recent DNA test which proved the relationship.

The baby's father and two brothers tragically lost their lives in the earthquakes, which killed more than 50,000 people.

The country's Minister of Family and Social Services, Derya Yanik, helped the couple reunite.

She said, "One of the most priceless tasks in the world is reuniting a mother with her child. Being part of that happiness meant a lot to us, too.

"The baby is truly a miracle. The fact that she survived and had no health issues touched us."
