Spain: Engineers on scene after train collision in Barcelona

Two trains collided near Barcelona early Wednesday and several dozen people were injured, Spanish officials said.

Catalonia's emergency services said 150 people were in "mild condition" while five others were in "less serious condition".

Three people were taken to hospital for treatment as a precaution, he added.

Officials say the collision happened on a train line in Montcada i Reixac, a town just north of Barcelona.

Ester Capella, the Catalan government's representative in Madrid, told Spanish national radio that officials were looking into the incident.

According to firefighters, the train has already been completely evacuated and seven rescue teams are still on the scene. Other rescue workers transport the injured in ambulances.

Speaking to local radio station RAC1, a passenger said "[The] train was full and my carriage, which was the last one, was completely full" when the collision occurred.

No one was trapped in the crushed wagons.

Civil protection authorities in Catalonia confirmed: "150 people [are] in mild condition and 5 in less serious condition."

When the collision occurred, a train entering the station slammed into a parked car.
