Warner Bros bosses have announced that they were restructuring the company to focus on DC superhero movies, hoping to emulate the success of rivals Marvel.

This week, the company dropped the new Batgirl movie months before its release.

A new 10-year plan was revealed Thursday during the second-quarter earnings report of the entertainment and film company.

General Manager David Zaslav said he wanted to "protect the DC brand" by focusing on "quality of upcoming blockbusters on the big screen.

Zaslav, who is leading the new Warner Discovery merger, said the company's primary focus now was to "develop the DC brand" and "to develop DC characters".

"You are watching Batman, Super man, Wonder Woman, Aquaman - those are brands that are known all over the world," he said of some of the company's biggest characters.

"We performed a reset. We've restructured the business that we're going to focus on, where there will be a team with a 10-year plan just focusing on DC."

It added, "We believe we can build a much more sustainable business."

'Sustainable Growth'

His comments come after Marvel boss Kevin Feige , speaking at the recent Comic Con event in San Diego announced plans for the next steps in the Marvel Comic Universe (MCU) through 2026.

Phases five and six of the MCU, he says, are about to feature the return of popular superheroes.
