BBC apologizes after World Cup coverage between Wales and Iran cut mid-match

The BBC have been forced to apologize after their World Cup coverage of Wales against Iran was cut short during the first half of the tense Group B encounter. Rob Page was looking to build on their 1-1 draw with the United States on Monday, while also knowing that failure to beat Iran could spell trouble in their quest to advance to the knockout stages. /p>

Wales had the best chance of the game when Kieffer Moore went close, but the teams were left without a goal at the break.

Iran thought they had taken the lead when Ali Gholizadeh had the ball in the net, but the striker was correctly ruled offside, meaning the goal was scored.

World Cup fans on Twitter became furious moments before half-time, however, when the BBC's coverage of the match was interrupted.

A purple screen showing the Qatar World Cup emblem and text that read "IBC WMT 1-1" appeared on screen for several seconds, while the cover also lost sound.

The untimely blip has likely left Wales fans watching at home in the UK frustrated, especially with their nerves already on edge.

User @Wally6161 tweeted: "Watching football and BBC screen go black and start beeping it was ready for icl nuclear war announcement."

Another fan @srsnoel wrote "BBC Iplayer really made me think a bomb threat had been placed on my screen."

A third fan also typed in the text '1-1' onscreen, wondering if it might be the full-time score.

@Mfc_fan1985 agreed, writing, "So if it ends 1-1 then it's a fix! Y'all saw that screen appear in the 43rd minute on the BBC, right."

Steve Wilson, who was commentating the match alongside Danny Gabbidon, apologized when the action returned to the screen.

Fans watching on the iPlayer were also experiencing sound issues during the contest.

@Iewdawg tweeted: "That sound from BBC iPlayer just cleared my eardrums."

"BBC iPlayer is hilarious", wrote @lumomichalik.

Meanwhile, @meggaherne was unhappy with the delay, tweeting: "2 mins behind actual game on BBC iPlayer, that's a joke."
